Oh, honey, you wanna talk about that dog horoscope today, huh? Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the market. They say them stars up there, they got somethin’ to do with how our puppies act. Sounds like a load of hooey to me, but who am I to say?
They call it “horoscope”. Fancy word. Comes from some old Greek words, meanin’ “time” and “lookin’”. Like lookin’ at the time, I reckon. They also call ’em “sky maps” and what not. I guess a map of the sky. They also say these signs help us understand our dogs.
Now, my old boy, Buster, he’s a lazy mutt. Sleeps all day, eats all night. Don’t matter what the stars say, he’s gonna be snorin’ on that porch. But some folks, they swear by this stuff. They say it tells you about your dog’s sign and what they need. I guess my dog Buster needs a good treat and a big nap.

- And some even say it tells ya if they’re gonna get along with other dogs.
I seen a lady at the feed store, readin’ a whole book on it. She was tryin’ to figure out why her little fluffy thing was so yappy. Said the stars told her it was a “Leo” or somethin’. I told her, maybe it just needs a good walk! And the book told her that her dog needs lots of attention.
They talk about somethin’ called “Pet Zodiac.” I don’t know much about this. But it seems to be related to the dog horoscope. And they say it tells ya ’bout your dog’s personality, based on when it was born.
My neighbor, she’s got a whole bunch of them little dogs. Chihuahuas, I think they’re called. She says they’re all different, even though they’re the same kind. Says one’s a “Scorpio” and the other’s a “Pisces”. I just think they need a good flea bath! These dogs are always running around, and they always follow my neighbor. It is interesting to see how these dogs are so different. I think it does not have any relationship with the stars.
Some folks say that your dog’s personality is decided by their breed. You know, like how them big dogs are good for guardin’ and them little dogs are good for cuddlin’. Makes sense to me. And also that how you raise ’em makes a big difference too. If you’re nice to ’em, they’ll be nice. If you’re mean, well… you get the picture. The environment also affects their personality, I think.
There’s these folks, they call ’em “animal behaviorists.” Smart folks, I reckon. They say they can tell ya all about your dog just by watchin’ it. They don’t need no stars to tell ’em what’s what. They look at how the dog acts, how it plays, how it eats. They can tell if it’s happy, sad, scared, or just plain bored. Seems more reliable to me, but what do I know? I’m just an old lady.
I heard ’bout this one dog sign, “Sagittarius”, I think it was. They say them Sagittarius dogs are full of beans. Always runnin’ around, playin’ games. Love to be outside. And they love people, too. Always wantin’ to be petted and loved on. Sounds like a good dog to me! They also need a lot of exercises. Otherwise, they will be very naughty.
But they also say them Sagittarius dogs don’t like bein’ cooped up inside. They need to run and play. And if they don’t get their way, they might just run off! Gotta keep an eye on ’em, I guess. They are escape artists! But they are happy dogs. I wish I could have one of those!
So, this dog horoscope today, it’s a funny thing. Some folks believe it, some folks don’t. Me? I think a good dog is a good dog, no matter what the stars say. Just love ’em, feed ’em, and give ’em a good scratch behind the ears. That’s all they really need.
