I’ve always been fascinated by tarot cards, not so much for fortune-telling, but more for the art and symbolism. So, I decided to embark on a little project – making my own tarot deck. Let me tell you, it was quite the journey.
First, I started digging around online. It looks like many people enjoy making their own tarot decks. I was thinking that it seems not too hard, so I decided to give it a shot.
I started by sketching out some ideas. I knew I wanted something unique, something that truly represented me. I’m no artist, but I had fun doodling and figuring out what symbols and images I wanted to use. I even played around with different styles, drawing inspiration from some of the decks I found online. There are so many styles out there! But I wanted something simple and intuitive, nothing too fancy.
Then I moved on to creating the actual artwork. Some people use fancy software for this, but I just stuck with good old paper and colored pencils. I also found that some folks print their cards on special paper, but I just used regular cardstock. I’m not selling these, so I didn’t need anything too professional.
The part that took the longest was figuring out the meanings. I knew the basic structure of a tarot deck – 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. But assigning my own meanings to each card was tough. For example, I learned that The Empress is a big deal, representing creativity and growth, linked to the number three. I decided to focus on that aspect in my design, and I think it turned out pretty well.
After I had all the artwork done, I scanned each card into my computer. I had to do a bit of cleanup work, adjusting the colors and sizes. I could have used an online tool, like I read about, but I enjoyed the hands-on approach.
Finally, I printed them out and cut them to size. I even rounded the corners to make them look more like real tarot cards. I used the thickest paper from the home printer.
The Result
- A Unique Deck: Holding my own custom tarot deck in my hands was such a cool feeling. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine.
- A Deeper Understanding: The process really helped me understand the meanings behind each card better.
- A Fun Project: Overall, it was a really enjoyable project. It was relaxing, creative, and I learned a lot along the way.
If you’re thinking about making your own tarot deck, I say go for it! It’s a great way to express your creativity and connect with the tarot on a deeper level. It may not make you a professional fortune teller or anything, but the journey of making is fun and meaningful.
