Okay, so I’ve been messing around with tarot cards lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I wanted to share how I figured out the whole “tarot deck order” thing, ’cause it was a bit of a head-scratcher at first.
First off, I grabbed my deck. It’s nothing fancy, just a standard Rider-Waite one. I looked up online about this order stuff, and some folks were talking about the “qabalistic philosophy” and the four elements – fire, water, air, and earth. So, apparently, the “right” order is Wands, Cups, Swords, and then Pentacles. Sounds simple, right?
Then, I tried to shuffle the cards in a way that felt right. I split the deck in half, holding one part in each hand. Then I started filtering cards from the right hand into the left, pulling them from the bottom of the right-hand pile and putting them on top of the left-hand pile. I kept doing this, moving cards over, until I felt like the deck was all mixed up and had my “energy” in it, as they say.
Next up, I wanted to see how the order played out in a reading. I laid out three cards, like a mini past, present, future spread. The idea is that the first card (the leftmost one) is the past, the middle is the present, and the last is the future. I picked out three random cards from the Minor Arcana.
Major Arcana
- I started playing around with the Major Arcana too. It was really confusing at the beginning.
- I pulled one out and put it with the other three to see how it changed the vibe.
- There’s a specific order for those too, apparently. They go like: I – The Magician, II – The High Priestess, III – The Empress, IV – The Emperor, V – The Hierophant, VI – The Lovers, VII – The Chariot, VIII – Justice, IX – The Hermit, X – Wheel of Fortune, XI – Strength.
So yeah, that’s basically what I did. I read some stuff, shuffled the cards, did a little three-card reading, and messed around with a Major Arcana card. It’s still a learning process, but I feel like I’m getting a better grip on this whole tarot deck order thing. It’s pretty cool to see how it all comes together.
